Level 3 — Mould Remediation

Level 3 mould remediation represents the highest tier of mould remediation practice in Australia. At this level, you are equipped to manage large-scale contamination — areas exceeding ten square metres — involving deeply penetrated structural materials, HVAC system contamination, and situations presenting elevated health risk due to the species or volume of mould present. This level of work demands not only technical competency but also advanced leadership, documentation, and risk management capability.

At Level 3, your understanding of mould science must be sophisticated. You must understand how different species of mould respond to remediation treatments, how mycotoxin production is affected by environmental conditions, and how to interpret air sampling and surface sampling results in the context of a remediation project. Whilst you are not expected to be a microbiologist, you must be able to engage meaningfully with industrial hygienists and other specialists who may be involved in complex Level 3 projects.

The consequences of inadequate Level 3 remediation are severe — both for building occupants whose health may be affected by ongoing exposure, and for the practitioner whose liability exposure is significant if work is not conducted to the required standard. Level 3 work demands your highest level of professionalism, preparation, and care on every job.
